Julian has held the posts of Director of Fundraising for the Royal Association in aid of Deaf people, Director of Development for Linacre College, Oxford, Director of the Bradfield Foundation, and Director of the Sherborne School Foundation.  He is currently the Director of Development and Alumni Relations at Aberystwyth University.

He has published articles on educational fundraising in Professional Fundraising and the Journal of Non-profit Marketing, has given seminars for the Institute of Fundraising, CASE, ADDIS, ISDF, ISCIS and Henry Stewart Conferences, as well as, of course, ASK's own annual seminar series. He was the founding chairman of the ISDF, a founder member of the executive committee of the IDPE, and was the first Chairman of and served on the CASE Schools Conference committee. He undertook the IDPE's Strategic Planning initiative and sat on the Chilterns regional committee of the Institute of Fundraising.

Julian was educated at Kimbolton and the Universities of Nottingham and Lancaster. He lists his interests as composing music of an eclectic nature, film, rugby, wine and literature.

Current and recent clients include the Girls' Day School Trust, Shrewsbury School, Westminster School, the University of the Witwatersrand, Cokethorpe School, Ellesmere College, University of Buckingham, Merchant Taylors' School, St John's Leatherhead, and Downside Abbey & School.
